Drummer and composer Rodolfo Zuniga is a native of San Jose, Costa Rica. After arriving in Miami he became one of the most sought-after sidemen and educators in southern Florida. He performs regulaly with the likes of Gary Campbell, Ira Sullivan, Silvano Monasterios, Erroll Rackipov and Stephen Scott. In addition he has shared the stage with Adam Kolker, Randy Brecker, Lew Tabackin, Joe Locke, Andy Laverne, Don Friedman, Benny Golson, Frank Wesley and Slide Hampton.
As a leader, composer and producer Rodolfo released 2 albums with his group "Surfaces", which performs regularly in Florida and Central and South America. In 2005 Surfaces was awarded the Carnegie Hall Residency under the direction of Dave Douglas. In the same year Rodolfo was chosen to be part of Betty Carter's "Jazz Ahead Group", with whom he toured the U.S. and was featured at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C.
Recently Rodolfo has put together an octet version of Surfaces, which is comprised of a jazz trio, a string trio, electric guitar and vocalist. This format features some of Miami's finest musicians like Tom Lippincott (gt), Siobhan Cronin (vl), Caroline Buse (vla), William Locke (vcl), Sherrine Mostin (voc) and founding members of Surface, Derek Fairholm (p) and Eric England (b).
Rodolfo is a proud Zildjan Cymbals and Vic Firth endorser and he continues to travel the world with various contemporary jazz projects and pop star Julio Iglesias. He is a professor at Florida International University, Miami Dade College and Broward College.
